Just a little about myself.
My name is Mandy Mackey. My interest with Miniature
Horses started around 5 years ago and this followed a lifetime of working
with animals and being very strongly involved in the showing, breeding and
judging of dogs to Championship Show Level.
I have always loved equines and owned many
large horses both for pleasure riding and breeding. I found as the
pressures of life,
family, running my own business and dog shows became more, it was
necessary to part with my much loved horses. As things changed and the
family grew up I started to feel the
need to have a horse back in my life but I didn't want to start riding
again. It was then I was able to think about the smaller breeds.The
fates then conspired in my favour on a chance visit to a Summer rally
one Saturday afternoon when I was delighted to come across a display
pen of miniature horses. After
contacting the owner, I viewed and purchased my first
mini, Slievecroob Silver Moon. Silver was in foal when purchased her
and ten months later my empire doubled. I was soon to find
this wasn't enough!!
As the dog show days had petered out the need for
something competitive in my life became strong again and I turned my
interest to showing the Minis. I would like to think my experience and qualifications in judging the
conformation of a dog enables me appreciate what I like in horses.
In the following pages you can see the collection of
minis gathered here so far, some pets and many of show quality. As time
goes on and I get the breeding programme established, I hope to do my bit
for the betterment of Miniature Horses, by breeding for quality,
conformation, refinement and most of all temprament.
